Hey all. I'm considering switching my current Eberron campaign (which just started -- we've only played two sessions) to E6. Most of the players seem supportive of the shift but there are a couple of holdouts (one guy wanted to play an Ultimate Magus, which is pretty much nerfed out of existence by E6, and the other is playing a barbarian.) My question primarily deals with which magic items are available for purchase in E6, especially in Eberron with the addition of artificers to the mix. Artificers change the rules in two significant ways: * They don't seem to need to have caster levels high enough to be able to actually cast the prerequisite spells to craft an item. All they need to do is make UMD checks equal to 20 plus the caster level of the item. * They gain a +2 bonus to their caster levels for the purpose of item creation. This would seem to allow any item with a caster level of 8 or less to be available for purchase in an E6 Eberron campaign, regardless of what the prerequisite spells were. I've heard that an item's caster level is irrelevant when determining the caster level that must be attained before a creator can actually craft the item, though. If this is true, then it would seem that it either does not apply to artificers (since their item creation mechanic specifically mentions the item's caster level) or that the artificer's mechanic for item creation is out of touch with the actual rules (otherwise, why wouldn't the artificer always just set the caster level to 1 for every item he creates?) My primary reason for asking these questions is to figure out what magic items are available for the PCs to purchase (and create). I'm not sure if there are any feats or whatever out there that might enable an artificer to raise his effective caster level for the purposes of item creation. If any exist, I need to know about it because that might affect the magic item market. Any help? Thanks, - Ron ^*^
