I just bought a little over 70 back-issues of Savage Sword of Conan for 25 cents each:)

I loved this magazine when I ws a teenager, and I still pored over the 20-odd issues I had every 6 months of so.

They are an incredible resource for DM's who are stuck for adventures (well ones involving Fighters, Rogues and Barbarians anyways)

This basically a treasure trove for me:)

There's a new series being published my Dark Horse these days. If you liked Savage Sword then you might like this as well. The art computer colored directly over pencils, without any inking. It creates a very interesting look, and so far the writing has been fantastic as well, adapting many of the original Conan stories. Something worth checking out, anyway.

Interestingly enough, magic wasn't as always a slow to use corrupted force in the magazine as it was in the Robert E. Howard novels. There's one arc where one of Conan's child hood friends is in essence a barbaian wizard and annoyed when his old lady is seeing Conan despite some other weird stuff going on. The authors must've felt that if it's cool, we're doing it!

One of the biggest problems with the style of Savage Sword for a D&D game, is that in terms of longevity, there is none. "By the Saints! There's a demon god spider in those mountains!' Enter Conan, exit spider. "By the saints! Demons lurk under this ancient city!" Enter Conan, annoy demons, city crumbles. Ah, the denizens of that setting must've got nervous whenever Conan came around. "Man, I wonder what will happen tonight? Death of a god? Assassination or a judge? Volcano erruptions? With that crazy Conan, you can never tell!"

On the other hand, perfect for a Wilderlands style setting.

By Crom, Mitra and the devils of Stygia!

(as a sidenote, I can see TB as a character in a Conan story easily enough... probably a roguish type)

Cruel sonofaguns, the lot of you! When I get something free from someone local, it's usually an offer of NASCAR memorabilia, or some butt-ugly pottery, or a free meal.

(pats stomach)

...and I don't need any of 'em! :)

Sounds good TB! I never had a big draw to the B&W pulps of the 70's and early 80's, but they looked cool enough. Back then, I was afraid my mom would think I was picking up porn and ground me. :)

Excellent!! Were you not a friend I might be jealous. As things stand, I'll just settle for a bit of good old fashioned envy. ;)

My buddy Alex has a way of stumbling onto incredible deals like this all the time...which means that his basement is chock full on unreal stuff you can't believe anyone might still possess. Comics, Hero Clix, various miniatures, out of print books, DVD's, etc.

P.S. Are we ever gonna work out seeing the Wings play the Canucks together?!?
