Eberron (and other) Races in Greyhawk

First Post
Ok, for my future Greyhawk campaign, I'm thinking of adding some of the latest racial creations of WotC to the setting of Greyhawk, along with some others:
-Warforged
-Elan or Kalashtar
-Beast-Kin (essentially a highly variable and customisable race of animal-human hybrids.. Yes, Furries.)

Now, I'm also fast-forwarding the timeframe to about 50-100 years down the line, so I can introduce various other developments, such as Clockpunk and Steampunk technology, along with a twist I call "The Children of Iuz."

Now, I have some ideas as to how to introduce the various races: The Elan or Kalashtar, I'd give an origin connected to an article from way back in Dragon #281: The Talaire, a race of psionic humans from another plane of existance long ruined by the Illithids, and now migrated to other worlds where they build homes for themselves and wage a war against the Mind Flayers.

Now, for the other races.. Who on Oerth would be most likely to build Warforged? My best idea so far is having a group of Gnomes and Humans spark a "Technomagic/Clockpunk" revolution, with Warforged being one of their creations.

For the Beast-Kin/Furries, my best idea was for them to be exiles from another Prime plane, fleeing a terrible enemy and bringing with them some new tricks, like Mecha technology from DragonMech...

So, any opinions or alternate suggestions?

Hello,

Here is an idea where your Furries come from. This is an cut and paste from an official greyhawk history site.

5094 SD Zellifar parleys with the Houses of Pursuit. His Arch Mage, Slerotin, unleashes a Mass Enfeeblement on their house mages, and a Mass Suggestion upon the other members of the Houses. Slerotin is blasted by magical energies upon the casting of these mighty spells, leaving the Rift Canyon as the only physical remains of this energy. The remnants of the Three Pursuing Houses (Schnai, Fruztii, Cruskii) are devastated and blasted by magic. Their mages minds are wiped of all magic, and the people are confused and terrified. In mass they flee, pell mell, northeastward, except one family. One small branch of the Schnai, the Hepmona, led by the priestess Jaguanara, moves south. They catch a lagging branch of Pellipardus' followers led by the two brothers, Lendore, a mighty mage, and Tilvan, a priestly follower of Tharizdun, and practitioner of the mental and physical disciplines, and drive them southward. This is called The Second Division. Tilvan takes his followers and hides in the Vast Swamp, and later moves south to establish a monastery on the peninsula which will later bear his name. Lendore takes his followers and moves to the largest island of the Spindrift chain and meets with the elves. By pact, they allow him and his family to remain on the island, so that he and his descendants should hold it "until the Elven realms have need of it." Jaguarana, and her followers continue madly, blindly, to the south, crossing the ocean in rough canoes to chase Lendore...She and her followers eventually find a large jungled land and take control of its northern reaches.

I suggest that the priestess Jaguarna and her followers started to heavily practise Druidic magic over the centuries and thier descendants started to be born with animal traits.

If you wish to introduce an industrial age to oerth then i suggest that you follow the same path that happen to our own world. Industy will start happening in major cities. To start with the 'old school' mages and priests will want to stop commoners having any form of control over technology. But slowly and surely War machines will start to be exported from dwarven citadels, primitive firearms will make thier way into commoners hands from Gnomes, printing presses and advances in medical science will have huge impacts. The nature of warfare will be changed forever, especially with the likes of Githyanki battlebarges, Dwarven Dreadnoughts (aka Warhammer 40k ish), and commoner soldiers using muskets and cannon.

Ex prisoners of the Illithids with psionic talents, escaped and now fight a war against the mindflayers - Why nor just name them Gith and be done with it?

Warforged are likely to come from the dwarves I think. They are more warlike than Gnomes and have an affinity to this sort of thing. They may have been patrolling the tunnels under the Flanaess for centuries without humans ever knowing.

I hope my thoughts are useful,
