Eberron: Brightblade holy day in Stormreach (suggestion box is open)

I'm DMing my Xen'drik game in a few hours, and I'd like to solicit suggestions for encounters for tonight's crew! They just finished the second adventure of Savage Tide, The Bullywug Gambit, and now want to participate in the revelry of the festival. I've replaced the Wormfall Festival with Brightblade, the holy day of Dol Dorn, the Sovereign Lord of Strength and Steel. (It's in Sharn: CoT, page 30.) The next time we play will likely continue the adventure path with Sea Wyvern's Wake.

What would be some fun encounters for them to have on Brightblade in Stormreach?

Being that Dol Dorn is the god of steel, perhaps all the local craftsmen compete for the right to be the exclusive source of weapons for the Deneith enclave and local watch over the coming year. The weapon judged to be the highest quality could be a prize for the winner of the grand melee, joust, or dwarf tossing contest. Your characters might be too powerful for a masterwork weapon to really be enticing, so perhaps the church of the host puts an enchantment on the winning item(MIC enchantments that come in gp value rather than plusses come to mind).

Have the giants invade Stormreach and take over -_- I know you have a few PDFs/Books laying around with tavern type games, modify a few and have them interspersed around the city. Or last but not least, have them leave all thier gear with the ever trusting and law abiding Galthron and then proceed to get them all captured/murdered so Galth can make off with all the loot. *evil grin*

This message brought to you by your friendly neighbourhood Dread Necromancer :D

edit: so does this mean that we wont be pursuing the whole "City of Gold" thing for Willvice yet? I was soo hoping to be there for that.

Here are the events that I ended up doing:

1) Archery contests. First round had each contestant shoot three times at a bullseye 120' away, and their score was the attack roll times 1d4 damage. Second round had the top three finalists shooting at copper, silver, and gold rings hung in three layers on a tree. The rings had increasing cover the higher they were.

2) Wrestling contests. The first round had a group of contestants trying to pin a greased pig. Things got really fun when the NPCs started interfering. :) In the second round, the three finalists had to remove three leather strips from each other. The prize was a pair of gloves with thousands of tiny adamantine barbs that gives +1 to grapple checks.

3) Pugil sticks. This was an ongoing contest that would run each time there were four contestants. Two competitors each climbed a 10' column with hay bails and padding strewn about the base. The winner was the first one to knock their opponent off the column (Balance DC 10). The padded quarterstaffs worked by making a touch attack against the opponent, doing 1d6 nonlethal damage (+Str, etc). When hit, the target would make a Balance check with the damage adding a cumulative penalty. (This event was really fun!)

4) Duels. Full gear, fight to unconsciousness. Pretty straightforward! We'll finish the finals next time.

A funny thing happened on the way through the festival: the halfling was signing up for the archery contest, when a bookie offered him a lot of money to throw the match. He refused... then lost the finals when he got whammied with someone's hexblade curse!
