Eberron Campaign: Shackled City or Forgotten Forge (Which should I run?)

reveal

Adventurer
I'm about to start an Eberron campaign. I haven't had a chance to look at the Shackled City adventures yet, but I will in the next few days. I have had a chance to look at Forgotten Forge (from the back of the Eberron book) and Shadows of the Last War.

In your opinion, if you were running an Eberron campaign which one of these campaign-lines would you pick and why?

Thanks for any input! :)

Shackled City is the adventure path set of scenarios in Dungeon magazine. They're just about wrapping up.

So far my approach will be a bit of cherry picking from the official Eberron scenarios then leading into running Malhavoc's Banewarrens, set in Sharn. I thought it'd be cool if the spire were actually somewhat forgotten in ancient times and one of the Sharn towers built around the spire. I think I'll have the banes be stuff locked away from way back during the Quori invasion and have some kind of living, perhaps viral, nightmare escape to carry the campaign after the Banewarrens.

I'm also considering picking up Necromancer's Fane of the Witch King and using it instead of Banewarrens, in case some of my players have previously hit the Banewarrens.

I considered Shackled City but I'm concerned it won't have enough of an Eberron feel, and I really want to make use of Sharn as a central base.

Apparently the new adventure path series will include notes in each scenario for adapting to both FR and Eberron, so that might be cool.

Since it's your first Eberron game, go with the Forgotten Forge and Shadows.. They're a very good introduction to the tone and flavor or Eberron, they introduce many factions and locations.

Steve, I may have to yoink this one and run it myself -- it sounds awesome! :D

I played through the beginning of Banewarrens, but the group fell apart and I've wanted to finish it ever since. Couple that with Eberron, which has been clamoring to be run (or played in) since I read the CS, and this sounds like a winner. Cooool. :)

Hi,

Has anyone followed up Forgotten Forge with the adventure that appeared in Dungeon a couple of issues ago before going on to Shadows of the Last War?

Cheers

Richard
