Some young noble takes a liking to one of the PCs - and asks them to dance. If they accept then performance (dance) rolls are required. Even then you then get a jealous noble taking offence at the PC dancing with his/her betrothed/child/would-be-partner etc. And if the PC refuses then it's a terrible insult to the heir of whatever (don't have Eberron so don't know what nobility structure is like in Sharn). And wherever the insult lands drawing swords is of course not an option. Particularly snobbish noble taking offence at the very presence of crass adventurers and does whatever he can to ensure these 'servants' know their place - fetching, carrying, general humiliation. Of course the adventurers will not be welcome in their full adventuring gear - at the very least because then they'll stand out like a sore thumb and attract even more attention - possibly scaring off the would-be assassin. Do you know who the assassin is yet? I.e. is it another party guest that could form enough of a relationship with one of the PCs to really confuse matters latter. One option is that the young noble that 'takes a fancy' to one of the PCs is planning on using the PC as a dupe in the assassination. Either as a 'what little innocent me... there's no way I could have done it... oh you do believe me don't you' or in terms of setting up the PC to be the first one to come across the body and then the 'oh gods... guards, call the guards, this adventurer just killed the ambassador's daughter' line. And in order for this to work obviously you need to have set up the relationship beforehand. The daughter is a veritable flirt and social butterfly, so keeping tabs on who she's talking to, and are they suspect becomes a nightmare - fun but probably difficult to actually play out. The daughter finds out that these adventurers are there to protect her and the PCs have to convince her to stay in the open in order to draw out the assassin - obviously at significant risk to herself. And of course then she's suddenly not acting like herself which may raise suspicion. Social taboos... strict protocol on how everyone should behave in terms of who eats first, whether it's socially acceptable to have fish with white wine, use of language, etc. Possibly throw in so Will saves for the characters to remember how to act and not revert to type. What's the party - and are they planning on all 'mixing with the crowd. You may find that a lot of this ends up as a series of individual encounters - the sorceror mingling as much as he can (probably the most inconspicuous), while the fighter ends up replacing one of the guards on the door, and the rogue pretending to be a servant in order to be able to go where he likes. Make sure you have good ideas for each of them. The Hoard
