Hello! My name is Paul Johnson, and I am moving to Wilmington very shortly. I am a lifelong gamer; my brother had me hooked on NES by my 5th birthday. I discovered D&D 6 years ago, when I was 15, and had the honor of starting with original AD&D First Edition under easily the best DM I've ever played with -- my best friend's dad. Before long I took over the mantle of DM and we upgraded to 2e with some pooled funds. Unfortunately I had to move away from my hometown and come to North Carolina and in the past 3 years I've bounced around as a player in various 3.5e, Pathfinder, and 4e campaigns. Now, I am moving to Wilmington, and I would very much like to take up the mantle of DM again. And so, I am starting this campaign. Game System: 4th Edition D&D Setting: Eberron -- a world best described as "fantasy noir". Dark and gritty, in Eberron conflict and intrigue are everywhere. Nothing is as it seems and not every cloud has a silver lining. The Day of Mourning may have brought a destructive end to the Last War, but the piece is a fragile one held together by fear and despair. Evils both ancient and newborn tug at the threads of civilization, trying to unravel the continent of Khorvaire and plunge the once glorious Five Nations into utter chaos. It is a world in desperate need for heroes. Houserules: I have a couple, but nothing truly major. (Stacking of saving throw penalties, using weapons as implements, and elemental weapons are the things effected; more details available later.) I believe in running an all-inclusive game -- unless specifically mentioned, assume anything printed by WotC (both in book and Dragon mag) is allowed. As of my writing this, Bloodclaw Weapons, the feat Lasting Frost, and the epic destiny Punisher of the Gods are disallowed, and the Bugbear race, the Deft Hurler Style feat, the Draconic Spellcaster and Gnome Phantasmist feats are all allowed but altered to be less ridiculous. Again, I like to allow everything but I reserve the right to disallow something even after you've already picked it -- I just hope I never have to use that right. Location: I plan on hosting the game at my new home. The house is huge and I've managed to claim the office as a gaming den; put a big table in there and it'll be all set for some great roleplaying. It's well separated from the rest of the house so we will neither bother the other people in the house nor will we be bothered by them. The door will be kept shut and the room kept free from pet dander and cigarette smoke although I can't promise the same for the rest of the house. It also has a door straight to the outside so if those things do bother you you won't even have to enter the rest of the house. I do want to stress one thing: This is a drug and alcohol free home. I do not do either and I don't care for playing with people who are drunk or high. Don't get me wrong, I don't care if you do either on your personal time, just do not bring it with you to the game. Anyways, it's a great spot located in central Wilmington in the Forest Hills neighborhood. Line up some chairs and a pair of tables (it's a big room) and we'll be golden. Time: Ideally I would have a long game starting saturday afternoon and going til about midnight. Sunday is good too. In the end, though, schedule is determined by everyone's combined availability; if the best time turns out to be a weeknight, then so be it. I would prefer a long weekend game, though. For when to start, I move the weekend of the 15th, so we're likely looking at the 22nd or 23rd for the first game if I can get the group put together in time. If not, well, it'll be later. I honestly can't think of anything more to add. If you're interested, give me a PM, or contact me at my email address (khift363 AT gmail.com) and we'll talk. Also, if you know of anyone else who is looking for a game in the area, do not hesitate to recommend them. I'm going into this city absolutely blind; any help finding players would be greatly appreciated!
