ECL calculation?

There's a document out there somewhere for ECL adjustment calculation, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone got a link handy? I've been running a varient dwarf in my campaign as a +1 ECL race, but more and more I'm starting to think it's probably +2 or +3.

What's ECL stand for? For that matter, what's this BBEG I'm always reading about? I've been posting here since January and, for the life of me, I can't figure these out!

Hello,

ECL stands for Effective Character Level. A creature's ECL is the sum of its level adjstment, Hit Dice, and class levels. BBEG stands for Big Bad Evil Guy/Gal. Don't you just love jargon

So under this formula....Thri Kreen from Psions Handbook......they have 2 racial HD.....and are ECL 2......thus a total of +4? I ask because I am curious as to how to handle such things as races with HD.

2 racial HD + a level adjustment (LA) of +2 makes 4. A thri-keen Fighter1 would be an effective level 5 character.
