- ECL templates ??

Hey all, I thought of something the other day, and I still haven't found the answer.

Does anyone know of a -ECL template? I am lookinf for something like "starving" or "runt". It would lower the abilities and CR fo a (N)PC or monster.

Any out there?

Well for a PC type (not monster), the PGF has 'weaker versions' that are ECL +0...

But, from what you're talking about, I can't say so off-hand, although a -CR template would be interesting.

I have listened to/played with the idea of a negative ECL race/template before, and am of the oppinion that they just plain don't work.

The biggest problem is casters. You can make someone as weak, easy to hit, easy to kill, etc etc as you like, but when you can trade it in for the ability to cast at levels higher than everyone else around you (including spells to make someone stronger, harder to hit, harder to kill, etc etc), it just doesn't balance out.

Book of Templates Deluxe has the Ablative template. It's only for constructs, and the rationale is that the construct was built with shoddy materials and/or in a rush. Some powers don't work, it's AC is lower, etc.

That's the only one I can think of off-hand.

There's some in the Draconomicon (Skeletal Dragon, one that removes spellcasting, etc)
