What do you find particularly interesting? I like all the articles, but this one doesn't jump out at me much. Maybe I'm missing something?

Edit: hopefully not coming across as snark! Just wondering what tickled your gray matter :)

I saw this book for the first time at my FLGS the other day. Had a bit of a flick through it.

As for the product's "background history" ... is it just me, or does Shannon Appelcline come off as a major FR fanboy (who appears to have hated 4e)?

The early revelations about the content of the notes given to Jeff Grub. I knew there was a lot, but info of EVERY person in shadowdale seems amazing. Also the fact that this was really the first post 4e book and was meant to be. I hadn't realized that.

I get the impression that Appelcline is a general Enthusiast; all his histories are like that.

Don't think he hated 4E per se, but all his histories for 4E products do dwell on the controversy: how could they not?

Like the best of Realms sourcebooks, EGP:EFR is a book that should be read at least twice.

It has a lot to say, not all of which is apparent on the first read through.

I don't believe either of these things are even slightly true.
  • "Elminster's Forgotten Realms put the final nail in 4e's coffin ..."
  • "Elminster's Forgotten Realms was also the harbinger of another major change ..."
  • "Five Realms RPG books produced over five years was a historic low that had never been seen before ... But now, that nadir was finally ending."
  • "The details depicted in these brief excerpts are amazing."
  • "With so much detail, it's no wonder that TSR decided to publish a whole setting — and it's no wonder that it quickly became TSR's most deeply and most supplemented world!"
  • "Some fans thought this might herald an upcoming reboot ..."
If nothing else, the guy sure does like using grandiose language.
