At 7th Level, you have War Magic, which is the primary benefit of the Eldritch Knight. You should cast Firebolt and throw the Hand Axe as a Bonus Action before engaging into melee. In melee you should use GFB as often as possible, then attack with the Battle Axe as a Bonus Action. This should give you 2d10+1d6+4 damage for ranged, or 4d8+8 damage for melee, which is pretty solid. If you have the option of picking up a two handed magic weapon, you should, since you can still cast spells while not attacking with it. Going forward, Mirror Image is a fantastic spell for you at level 8, since it has no concentration requirements (open with it against the dragon, instead of firebolt/hand axe). If Feats are available, at level 8 you should consider Heavy Armor Master, because it will give you 20 Str and some damage reduction. Alternately, you can take Tavern Brawler, but that's less likely to be useful. You can increase Str and Cha by 1 if Feats are unavailable. If you decide to multi-class to wizard, I'd suggest picking up spells you don't have access to via. EK. Some have talked about how great this is, but your HP will drop significantly, and you're still likely to fall back on War Magic (cantrip + weapon) until you reach 3rd level spells (which won't be until level 12). Given the rest of your group, however, this might be the best option if only to have utility spells via. rituals.
