Virtual Books! If you feel the need for "Perfect" representations of books in pdf format, you will need a tablet PC with a super hi-res screen. I am considering purchaseing just such a machine for the sole purpose of storing/reading my ebook collection. You should REALLY go to a Best Buy and test out one of these devices. It will suprise you how nice it really is. It's light enoph to hold in 1-hand easily (unlike a laptop). - Things I look for in a Tablet PC: - light weight - secondary monitor support (so I can display PC info, such as maps) on an ubber-high resolution flatpannel. The thing that is delaying my purchase is the "perfect" software. I want a pdf reader that flips pages like a real book, allows be to put "virtual bookmarks" into ANY pdf, allows me to store my pdfs in a "virtual 3D library" and of course a "non-broken" version of e-tools. (still waiting for the patch) As far as pdf availability, I have a pdf version of EVERY book I own! Those books that did not come in pdf format had to be manualy scanned and converted (which I only did once, becouse it took SO SO LONG!) or find a copy that someone else had already converted to pdf format. I understand that someone DISTRIBUTING pdf books, (via irc/ftp/etc..) is breaking the law, but if I only collect those books that I physicaly own, I am NOT worried about suffering any legal action. It would be a HUGE mistake for a company to target an individual for pdf theft when they already own "real" versions of the books. TANGENT: I would LOVE to see WOTC / PIAZIO sell pdf versions of ALL books/magazines in pdf format! I believe that this would make them ALOT more money, rather than the (loss of income) that is currently caused by people trading illegal pdfs over the web. Personally, I would pay and extra $0.025 - $0.05 per page (aprox $2.50-$5 for a Dungeon Magazine or $5-$10 for a Sourcebook) BTW: I am currently working on a website that will provide pdf Storage/Store that will allow you to use your ebooks anywhere you have an internet connection. The major issue I am working on right now is: preventing warez hosting of files. The site should provide ALL of the things I described for pdf storage "virtual library" , it would be nice to also supply a web accessible version of etools, but copyright laws would seem to frown upon this. Not sure if I could somehow check and see if etools is installed on the client, as a verification of etools ownership? I think a public accessible product registration would be the best thing to "work around" these legal issues, but that probubly won't happen EVER.
