Elemental Savant and Energy Substitution

OK, if I have an Elemental Savant, can I learn a spell of the opposing element?

According to the PrC in T&B, I can't _cast_ spells of the opposing element. It's not clear in my mind if it means I can't _learn_ the spell. I find the concept of my Fire Elemental Savant casting Cone of Fire (an energy-subbed Cone of Cold) intriguing. Not to mention the Cone of System Shock (Energy Admixed Cone of Cold with Fire).

Anyone know of any official (or semi-official) rulings on this? Informed opinions?

I'd say you couldn't since they are opposing elements and no you couldn't learn the spell. It would be like allowing a Necromancer who took Divination (using 3.0 rules here) to be able to cast/learn Identify.

Yes, you can. You can even cast CoCold you just cant substitute for cold. Which isnt really a restriction since what Fire Savant is going to take ES(A)Cold?

Where does it say you cant cast spells of the opposing energy type? the only line I can find says that you cant energy substitute a spell to the opposing type.

If that is the only part you are refering to then go ahead and learn new spells of the opposing type, energy substitute them to something you can, or dont.

Is there some restriction that I missed?

Easy enough, looks like other people support that the entry only states inability to energy substitute the opposite, no learning restrictions or even casting restrictions beyond that.
