Elven childhood

Good graph.

I decided that mental maturity would lag a bit behind humans (for the same actual time period), but her physical growth be at 1/3 rate. So her childhood crush grew up into adolescence while her body was left behind, and therefore it didn't work out. She was mentally mature enough at that point to understand what had happened.

One of the most fun adventures I ever ran was a high muckity-muck elf hiring level 1 PC's to "babysit" a 40 year old elf and keep a group of orcs from killing him. The elf had the physical and mental maturity of a 10 year old, but the mental capacity of a very smart adult. He could cast many, many cantrips of various sorts, and at one point he had the PC's utterly convinced there was a vampire or a mummy in the basement...

In short, the adventure worked out a lot better as a comedy than it would have as the more-or-less serious adventure that I had planned.

It's easy to joke about 30-year-old children, but most societies on earth today -- and all societies of the past -- would view modern American society in much the same way, especially the subset that goes to grad school. Men not working until their 30s? Women not getting married until their 30s?
