However RAW also states, on the same page of the PHB (201), in a subsection of the spell slots section, that, "...The spell assumes the higher level for casting.  For instance, if Umara casts magic missile using one of her 2nd-level slots, that magic missile is 2nd level.".  So while you are incorrect about casting darkness with a higher level slot Jeremy is also wrong about how using a higher level slot works, so yeah disregardable ruling.</p></blockquote><p></p>
