When other peoples in the world retreated into underground citadels, or surrounded their cities with domes of elemental air and fire, the Queen of the Elves of the Wyrm Wood said that they were wrong, and that magic could be wrought into the very fabric of the Wyrm Wood to protect them from the rapacious Horrors of the Scourge. Part way through the Scourge she was proven wrong as their wards failed. Their (admittedly clever) observation was that Horrors sought to cause pain and feed upon it, but they had no interest in those already in agony from other sources. And so they worked a great ritual to transform themselves and the wood into a place of limitless pain. Each elf's flesh became pierced with the thorns and stems of a plant growing within their flesh. The pain was intolerable for many and they died or went irrevocably insane. But those who survived were no longer of interest to the Horrors - or perhaps they had become as Horrors themselves. Either way the act has divided the elven nation in two, between those who are appalled by their actions, and would undo the travesty of what is now called the Blood Wood; and those who admit that their betters did what they had to do to survive.Blood Elves are classic elven supremacists with a very nasty twist. There's plenty of story to be had in dealing with these elves.</blockquote>
