[EN World Book Club] Eragon [February 2004 Selection]

Granted, Eragon isn't the most original fantasy novel to come out recently. However, it did manage to capture my attention, and keep it throughout the entire novel. In my book (ha ha) that makes it a good read.

I'm surprised about the lack of interest in discussing Eragon.
I wanted to read and discuss, but was unable to get a hold of the book. As I'm broke, I'm limited to what I can get from the CLEVNET libraries around northern/northeastern Ohio. Since Eragon is still so new, all copies of it are LocalRequest only, and our library copy remained checked out the entire reading time. I may get around to reading it sometime and commenting here, bringing back the dead thread, and all. :D

So which characters made u think of other, familiar pop culture characters?

Eragon = Luke Skywalker (etc other Messiah characters)
Brom = Obi Wan/ Merlin

Hmm.. so everyone thinks it's 'all right', but no one seems blown away by it.. Seriously, if it weren't written by a prodigy would we bother reading it?

I would. I enjoyed the book. I think it was better than "all right" but not quite "great". :) The storyline has promise and it was a fast read. It was much better than most books that I've read recently. It's also a book that I woudn't hesitate to recommend to people who don't generally read fantasy.

I enjoyed his literary style greatly, but his plot was fairly cliched. It was enjoyable, but not great. I will get his next few books though...the author certainly has promise.

Gonna bump this to see if we can breath some life into the discussion, and because the boards seem pretty active after the down weekend.

Also, I am enjoying Anubis Gates so far, and encourage others to pick up a copy.

Certainly. I received it as an Xmas gift, having never heard of it, and was half-way done before I read the little author bio thing. I recalled having vaguely heard of him before, but I can't say for certain.
