Message: <blockquote data-quote="Bardsandsages" data-source="post: 2672352" data-attributes="member: 28771"><p>This is faulty logic, as it assumes people are aware of the fact that, quick frankly, their stuff does in fact suck.  For example, I use Lulu as my printer, simply because it is easier for me than dealing with a local printer, then getting ISBNS on my own, then finding a distributor,  then contacting online vendors, etc etc.  However, I assure you every day somebody forks over $149 for the global distribution program and the book sucks.  I have witnessed people pay said fee who can barely construct a cohesive sentence.  Obviously as a Lulu user, I know there are a lot of talented people who use the service, but there are also a lot of folks who write trash.  And the ability to fork over money does not eliminate the trash.  In fact, most vanity presses DEPEND on the fact that people with little or no talent are willing to pay for the chance to be published.  Why do you think places like poetry.com and the National Library of Poetry continue to thrive?  Because people are willing to fork over $80 to get their "complimentary" copy of a book with their poem in it.  And without any review process, you are opening the door to any gamer geek with extra money to spend to begin uploading crap.</p></blockquote><p></p>
