But before I do that, I want to know the name and address of the thrice-cursed blaggard that made me choose twixt Conan and Empire. Damned be ye, unto the 7th generation!</p><p></p><p></p><p><u>Northern Division</u></p><p><strong>#9 Twelve Monkeys (1995) </strong></p><p>--This was the first movie I saw that hinted that Brad was more than a female draw, and led the way to his performance in Fight Club, which is notably absent from these brackets.</p><p></p><p><strong>#13 Pete's Dragon (1977) </strong></p><p>--Childhood memories. What else can I say?</p><p></p><p><strong>#10 Time Bandits (1981)</strong></p><p>--Best ending ever. Parents dead, killed by ultimate evil. And midgets. </p><p></p><p><strong>#15 Shaun of the Dead (2004)</strong></p><p>--Defeating the minions of hell with a cricket bat. Great English comedy.</p><p></p><p></p><p><u>Eastern Division</u></p><p><strong>#11 The Fifth Element (1997)</strong></p><p>--This movie makes no sense, but it isn't at all ashamed of it. Great action adventure. And Mr. Shadow calls the human henchman on the telephone. Great flick.</p><p></p><p><strong>#10 Dragonslayer (1981)</strong></p><p>--This is Dungeons and Dragons. And the King at the end is proclaimed "Dragonslayer"; very appropriate.</p><p></p><p></p><p><u>Southern Division</u></p><p><strong>#12 Big Trouble in Little China (1986)</strong></p><p>--"Black blood of the earth, you mean oil?" "No, I mean Black Blood of the Earth!" Seven demon bags and the Three Storms. And he doesn't kiss Gracy Law at the end. "Nope." As incredible as PB is, the non-serious/seriousness of this flick wins.</p><p></p><p><strong>#11 Total Recall (1990) </strong></p><p>--My father took me to see this in theater. When I was 10. I have a great dad, and this is a much more fun move than Hellraiser.</p><p></p><p><strong>#15 High Plains Drifter (1973)</strong></p><p>--In the frist five minutes on screen, the Drifter kills three men and rapes a woman. And makes a midget mayor. It was the midget that tipped me.</p><p></p><p></p><p><u>Western Division</u></p><p><strong>#9 Batman (1989)</strong></p><p>--Keaton as Batman opened up comic books for me. And Nicholson as the Joker still beats pretty much every other villan out there.</p><p></p><p><strong>#12 Sleepy Hollow (1999)</strong></p><p>--Johnny Depp showing his stuff. The characters were interesting, and it was a good interpretation of a fairly well-worn and unexciting halloween story.</p><p></p><p><strong>#13 The Seventh Seal (1957)</strong></p><p>--DEATH playing chess. Von Sydow wasn't a shlub either.</p><p></p><p><strong>#11 Nosferatu (1922)</strong></p><p>--Dracula stands up by virtue of his Will. Scary friggin scene. I also loved <em>Shadow of the Vampire</em>, which honors this work.</p><p></p><p><strong>#14 Conan the Barbarian (1982)</strong></p><p>--Damn you. Damn you. Damn you. I will meet you. I will have you driven before me. And I will hear the lamentation of your woman.</p><p></p><p><strong>#10 Phantom of the Opera (1924)</strong></p><p>--Passion. Much more compelling than the tag-lined Bram Stoker's <em>Dracula</em>, "Love Never Dies".</p><p></p><p><strong>#15 Spirited Away (2001)</strong></p><p>--Clever, compelling, mirthful and magical. If small motes of dust can evoke emotion, then the rest of the work is even more impressive.</p></blockquote><p></p>
