- If the party immediately walks up the steps Read Aloud - You climb the 3 steps into the raised, smaller room containing a single monstrous bug. The creature's attention is directed at a book it's reading until it hears your approach. - If the party sneaks forward or is scouting ahead - You quietly peak around the corner into the smaller room. Across from you is an exit into another area of the city. To your right, a huge insect-like creature stands with its back to you. The bug appears to be reading a book, deep in thought. - Regardless of how the party begins the encounter, read the following - As you approach, the creature turns its attention to you. The secrets of the deep shall remain hidden. The creature lunges at you. - stop reading - The creature (level 17 huge solo soldier, leader) is an elder of its people and is ready to fight to the death to protect it's list of conscripts into the cult. It begins each round by calling forth 2 bugs (level 17 minions) from eggs on either side of the room (Minor action) and directing them to attack any leaders in the party. It will then attack and mark one character before attacking another character or any character that may have it marked. When the creature becomes bloodied, another bug-like creature (level 16 brute) hatches at the opposite end of the room. Read the following. The young must not grow hungry... At this time, the solo creature and any currently living minions become immune to all attacks until the brute is killed or for three rounds. After this, the fight continues as before until the leader is killed. Read the following before the creature dies. Master, is my service complete? *Special* if the party waits the three rounds and kills the leader before the brute dies, the brute burrows and runs away with any remaining minions. Grant the party full experience for the encounter, plus experience as though having defeated another creature of 17th level.
