weapons anyone?

The idea seems good. a lot of weapons in one small place. but I havent seen the book yet. if you wind up buying it then be sure to post a review for those of us who haven't seen it yet.

I saw a copy in my FLGS but didn't buy one. I love weapons (see my art thread) but this product doesn't seem to have much bang for my buck. Each weapon gets it's own page, which is nice but seems overkill to me. The art is so-so. I would have prefered a greater number of weapons and ones that are far more exotic and interesting. It's a great idea but I think it fell short of what it could have been.

I saw this in the FLGS and while it's really nice looking, one entire page per weapon strikes me as complete overkill. I mean, it's great to have the 3rd ed stats, but let's see, my copy of Palladium's Compendium of Weapons, Armour and Castles has 24 weapons on each of the pages for melee weapons. Admittedly that's without descriptions, but still, you should be able to get at least 4 well-detailed weapons on a page, including pretty good pictures for them.

Just what do they propose to do with weapons that take a whole page to describe? Does it do a different kind of damage if you turn it sideways or something? Or do they go in depth into "the history of the halberd"?

I'd like to see something that gives a brief description of many things and damage stats for them... Heck, have a whole chapter on barroom weapons: mugs, tables, bottles, darts, pans, dwarves, chairs, hams, etc.

Heh, GURPS Horror had the damage stats for a Garden Weasel.

The stat block was a thin strip at the bottom of the page; then about 1/3(?) of the remaining space was taken up by the art, and the rest was a description of the weapon. I think there might have been an example of a magic version of each weapon in the description section too.

It's actually not a bad little book. Though each weapon does get a full page, part of that is tied in with the magical weapon example for each weapon. It's actually much more interesting than their Swords of Power book, and it's got some very interesting twists.

There are plenty of weapon books on the schedule for the following year, and this was the first one I added to my library. Instead of thinking of it as a complete guide to every possible weapon in existence, think of it as kind of a "Monster Manual" for exotic weapons ;)
