So, I've reworked a lot of little things in SKT and some of those things will be coming to light next session. I took over DM'ing for the group where we left off having finished Horde of the Dragon Queen with our characters at 8th-level. In order to transition to SKT, I hand-waived that Blagothkus took the PC's to the Well of Dragons and had other cloud giants and their sky castles join them. They obliterated the cultists and stopped the ritual before it could even happen. They then all celebrated and got taken back to Parnast before heading back to Waterdeep. I started the adventure with the PC's in Waterdeep, learning of something going on in Nightstone and being tasked to investigate. The character I had played in the HotDQ game, an aarakocra monk, stayed behind with Blagothkus because he was utterly entranced by the sky castle and wanted his own for his people so that they would never again bow to the tyranny of dragons (my character's backstory and hook into HotDQ). On the way to Waterdeep, however, one of the other members of the group disappeared in the middle of the night without explanation. This was my character's brother (another player played an aarakocra ranger and wanted to change characters for SKT). The ex-PC then became a means for me to develop the SKT plot by coming in and giving the group some clues/missions. I made it that Blagothkus betrayed my character but my character had a Sending Stone on him that the ex-PC had the paired one to, and sent him an urgent message about the betrayal and his subsequent imprisonment. That's why the sudden departure before the rest of the group got to Waterdeep. The ex-PC chased after Blagothkus and saw the last bit of carnage over Nightstone before the sky castle left. In my version of SKT, Blagothkus is the consort of Sansuri instead of Cressaro. They met back up (with the Nightstone now in their possession as one of the artefacts of Ostoria that Sansuri is looking for), and Sansuri was so enamoured of my character's plumage, that she made a bunch of simulacra of him, then killed him, and had him stuffed for display. This is a sort-of perversion of what's in the book since in it, she has aarakocra simulacra, so it was kinda perfect. The thing is, and this is where it gets awesome, I have to up the challenge of things because they started in Nightstone (I had it that Blagothkus was the one that raided the town and stole the rock, and that the rock itself had the power to disable the ability for dragons to fly within a certain radius, and that the entire campaign is based on the premise of a potential war between dragons and giants) at 8th-level and are now 11th-level and about to go take on Sansuri, and discover Felgolas (who I introduced in Nightstone) being tortured. So I'm increasing the challenge significantly by making Blagothkus into a standard cloud giant, but with his extra abilities from HotDQ, and Sansuri a Cloud Giant Smiling One with her extra spells, plus all the cloud giants having the extra bennies from SKT. What I'm also doing, however, is that instead of the regular aarakocra simulacra as guards of Lyn Armaal, the PC's are going to face an army of my character's simulacra, as 8th-level monks (with half hit points due to being simulacrum). It's all so perfect I could cry :D
