While I appreciate Rodrigo's kind characterisation of my decision, it wasn't entirely a selfless act--frankly I got tired of being yelled at every year and told how stupid, incompetent, or corrupt we were (sometimes, disappointingly, from professional peers with whom I thought there was mutual respect), and one year it reached a point where I asked myself why I was doing this; I got nothing out of it and I'd put 18 years in, which I felt was enough, and it was not exactly contributing positively to my mental health. The folks that continue to work on the awards have my admiration and respect because it is not an easy job, it pays nothing, is largely thankless, and they get attacked from all sides. They're a good bunch, and the ENnies bring something positive into an increasingly tough environment. For me, it was always about giving the creators recognition--the artists and writers and editors, etc. The companies get recognition in the form of dollars when they sell the books the creators make; this was always a little way to just say 'thank you, you did a good job' to those who worked on the games we love. That really made it worthwhile for a long time. I do still mention from time to time that I am the (co) creator of the ENnies, though. I'm not sure what it's worth--a few silver perhaps--but I think I earned that much! I feel we did something lasting and have left a smallish but positive mark on the industry. And those guys continue to do so. Though I'm slightly sad that I can never win one (well, I suppose I technically could, but it would look odd, even after all these years)... It was the right decision. Now I'm happier, richer, and significantly less stressed. :)
