Who wins what aside, there is much that can be done before then, particularly in the animation department of the slides. Cover gaffes aside, I was dissappointed that I didn't have the time to properly animate the "slides" so I do intend to spend some time between now and then building the necessary symbols for those animations. Also, more active transitions than fade-in / fade-out are desireable. I can lay down the ground work now and reduce the scramble at the end. Looking ahead though, I have a concern about the categories themselves. Currently there is a focus on the products, but not on the authors themselves. Also, Drat it I missed WotC and Kenzer. I personally do not agree with the decision to limit their categories as severely as was done. So on the subject of categories, this is what I would like. Disclaimer: I only direct the show - issues such as this are issues of *production* - which is why Russ is the *producer* of the show. At the end of the day I have no more pull than any of you. I've heard rumor of the awards being renamed the "RPG Awards." That's too broad a focus I think. I would however support a broadening out to "OGL Awards" Reason: d20 & OGL have hereunto been synonymous, but this year we'll see products that are OGL and aren't d20 - Arcana Unearthed is a big example of this. I support expanding the list of awards out to 20. Specifically... 1. Best OGL Game This is open to any new OGL game, not just d20 licensed games. Hence Arcana Unearthed would be eligable. 2. Best Adventure 3. Best Campaign Setting 4. Best Interior Art 5. Best Cover Art 6. Best Cartographic Art 7. Best Setting Supplement These five won't change except to be open to OGL products that aren't necessarily d20, like the Mystic Eye products based on Arcana Unearthed. 8. Best Spell Supplement New Category. Spell supplements are almost as popular as monster supplements these days and like them should have their own category. 9. Best Monster Supplement 10. Best Rules Supplement 11. Best Aid or Accessory 12. Best Graphic Design & Layout Unchanged except again, to be open to OGL products that aren't necessarily d20. 13. Best Electronicly Published Product Slight name change. A lot of folks wondered why Campaign Suite wasn't in this category, and the name change fixes this. 14. Best Free Product Shorter name. The current name is a royal pain to fit on a medal. 15. Best Commericial Website Name changed from "Official Website" because I find the term "official website" to be demeaning to the fan sites. 16. Best Amateur Website (General Resource) 17. Best Amateur Website (Campaign Setting) Then again, some might argue that the name change to "Amateur Website" is demeaning - but I don't agree with that either. 18. Peer Award Unchanged. 19. Publisher of the Year Name change from "Best Publisher." 20. Product of the Year New category. This is for the best product overall as the name states. ------ Ok, categories aside, Here are some changes around the show itself that I am considering. First off - JOB OPENINGS - so listen up. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR You'll be my assistant. Your principle job will be to help me keep in contact with the nominees since my email access is intermittent at best. You must be able to make Gencon since I will need onsite help in various small ways. You will mail out the nominee invitation cards that they are to present to the House Manager for priority seating. PROPERTIES MANAGER / SET DESIGNER You'll work with Clay (assuming he does the statues next year) in getting the statues to the site and making sure no one conceals them. Also, you will be responsible for the stage dressing. I can get you in contact with the Indy convention center to get the stage measurements if you like. Basically there is a curtain rail on the backstage we can hang stuff from, the front of the podium can have a logo poster attached. We cannot change the lighting from the presets (unless you want to spend $400 on a union call for it - I don't). Again, you have to be at the con. HOUSE MANAGER You'll arrange the seating and make sure whatever seating plan you devise is implemented. ----- Other items. I would go for a preshow start time of 7:00, mainshow start of 8:00. ---- Well, that's about it. I'm open to other ideas of course, please put your thoughts into the box :)
