Message: <blockquote data-quote="myrdden" data-source="post: 2196229" data-attributes="member: 549">I can appreciate your sentiments on this.  In my situation, I really don't care about any of the crew so at the very least, the episode was a change of pace.  I agree that this type of episode should have appeared sooner rather than in the last half a dozen but such was the production choice.  In the end it was entertaining (more so than many, many other episodes in this series) for me - but I can see where others would disagree.I'll argue that the fact people are liking this episode is because it has many of the qualities people were looking for in the series - minus the proto-fascism.  It tied in to TOS; it had an original alien race (tholians); it had a grittier feel to it.  Had the series been handled better this could have been a great diversion in a season as opposed to the "beginning of the end" for the show.And really - what can the show do over the next few episodes anyways?  Tie up character plots?  Are there any to tie up?  I can't think of any arcs that need to be completed (excpet for who the figure was in the TCW - and really that be left alone as far as I'm concerned) and starting any new ones will simply feel rushed.  Do they show the formation of the Federation?  Probably could but I think it would feel rushed and unsatisfactory to the fans that still remain.  I expect the last episode to feel rushed and unsatisfactory as it is.  I see no problem with at the very least creating a few good episodes that have some entertainment value since the show isn't going to grow any furhter.</blockquote>
