Apparently it isn't just visual ... the plot is semi-cribbed from Tron, too.

No doubt that was precisely why the author chose Tron as a motif for Parson's arrival in the game world. That, and Tron always makes for cool visuals.

And if you'll remember, Parson's posture in his basement game room on his chair (leaning back with his arms flung wide) is the same posture Flynn adopted when he was shot in the back with the lazer and transferred to the computer world.
