Escape From Sembia is released, sort of

Escape From Sembia, one of the 4E demo games at DDXP, is included in the June DDDM/D&D League Kits. Just black&white like all league adventures, but it's nice to be able to get my hands on it.

The skill challenge is the one thing that seems to have changed from DDXP (plus a few minor edits like
the party isn't assumed to have stolen horses on the way out of town.
)

In both versions it's a level 1, difficulty 3 challenge. So 8 successes before 4 failures.

In the DDXP version, you are given three DCs, low, moderate and high, and the players were supposed to tell you which they wanted to use. I think that method was scrapped but I don't have a DMG to confirm it. In the RPGA version there are no DCs given, rather, a flat DC is given for various skills (level 1 is DC 12), if you fail something bad might happen but often you get a second save at a much higher DC before it's a fail, if you succeed by above another given DC you get a bonus. The RPGA version is much easier to read/run IMO.

There are a lot more examples also in the RPGA verison of the module as well. I really think that the only complaint I have is the format they chose. It should be a single page per sheet, not two pages per sheet.

Interesting. The skill challenge DC of 12 is lower than the recommended DC for a moderate 1st-level skill challenge in the DMG, and makes it easier for the average 1st-level party to succeed at a skill challenge without using utility powers or magic items.

The recovery skill check before a failure and bonus for a higher skill check will also help swing things in the PC's favor.

I believe it's the monthly kit sent to retailers for running D&D Miniatures and D&D events. It includes miniatures repaints as league prizes and printed versions of short D&D adventures that have lately been excellent for making people never want to play D&D ever again.

Escape from Sembia is also available as a download for RPGA members.

I don't understand why they released it publicly now. Last month would've been smarter, since back then a 4E preview adventure would've been useful and it would've been possible to overlook its many shortcomings because its primary purpose is to showcase the system. Now, the system is out and it's just a pointless railroad.

Could anyone who's an RPGA member share the Escape from Sembia adventure? They don't allow people to become members over the website, and don't exactly say how to become one otherwise. It's incredibly frustrating, and I'd just like to run the "publicly available" module for my family, to try to get them interested in 4e.

Haha! Too bad for you! No one here is willing to help you find ways to get your family into roleplaying, nor allowed to point you in the right direction, ANY direction! We want monolithic control of roleplaying solely by the chief executive at wizards, and no one else! Get into roleplaying without paying $20.00 for a demo module? SOL!

Haha! Too bad for you! I'm banning you for three days for being a jerkwad to a new poster who did nothing to deserve it! I have monlithic control over your ability to post here! Want to be able to be a jackass with no consequences? SOL!

Does it have to be that module in particular? There are some decent fan-made modules floating around on this site, I think.
