Mwahahaha! Hahaha....million dweeb march....hehehe....I can just imagine it. We'll get about a block down and then all get tired because that's the most excersize we've done since learning how to walk. :) Good-natured ribbing, I can take. No problem. I can deal with an episode of Futurama having Gary Gygax DMing for Stephen Hawking and the main characters after the universe imploded (or something). I can live with characters on Buffy bickering about James Bond minutuae. What kinda gets on my nerves is when they imply that, somehow, THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT. I mean there's nothing more wrong with sitting in a basement and wearing funny hats than there is with, say, going to a sports event with your team's logo painted on your head...and it probably happens in about the same percentage (not everyone who enjoys sports paints their head...not everyone who plays D&D wears funny hats). I can live with statements like "I'm sure those boys are nice, but they're clearly geeks" because, yeah, I am a geek, and you know what, it's OKAY! I get irked at things that imply there's something wrong with you because of that. Lines like "After she had successfully eluded them, she turned to them, sneered, and said mockingly, "Oh, don't worry, guys! I really do like Dungeons and Dragons." " Okay, I'm a geek. There's no problem with that. Nothing. I'm not a worse person for it. You're not superior to be because you're not. Get off the high horse, and get an open mind. Stop trying to make yourself feel important, and other people feel like crap, because, you know what, that's the kind of thing that leads to crap like high school suicide rates skyrocketing. Good natured ribbing? Sure, I can take it. It's funny. Wearing funny hats. Heh. Good one. But this crosses the line. It's not good natured ribbing, anymore. It's Dork Discrimination. It's making yourself feel better because someone is different. It is ignorant and ethnocentric. And it's this kind of thing that lies at the very foundations of things like racism, sexism, and other bigotries. Okay, it's just a TV show, and I'm blowing it WAY out of proportion. D&D dorks have never suffered anything anywhere NEAR the sufferings of those of non-Caucasian descent, and the women of many, many descents. It's a much, much lesser scale. No one's ever enslaved us (What would be the point? We'd collapse and die within minutes. ;)) But it's the same root problem. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad. You are no better than me. At least I don't make a big deal out of some friggin' eggs, ya anal-retentive witch. :D Sorry if that comes off as virulent, but I think I just figured why sometimes, making fun of D&D is something I can laugh along with, and, sometimes, it's something that just peeves me off. And a TV show is a harmless outlet for my psychological feelings of inadequacy. :P
