Ever run a high level party through a low level module?

I was just thinking of a fun idea for a high level party (like 20th). Have them run through a low level module (like 10th) and just see fast they could do it. It wouldn't be a campaign certainly, just a couple of sessions for fun. Has anyone ever tried anything like that?

Isn' that sort of like taking a level 70 WOW character through Deadmines?

Unless the module is filled with kobolds. Because kobolds would plan out CR 20 traps to defeat the party. And then they would all be embarassed because they were killed by kobolds. :)
 

I'm running a 2nd level party through a 1st level module. It's proportionally the same.

;)

I think it'd be fun, but toughen it up a little and try to go for really good tactics.

Yes I have and the players were way to cocky and had to retreat the first time they entered. Of course I got several very lucky rolls which the players were allowed to verify. So that may have been a big part of it. hehehe
 


I ran the 11th level party in my Freeport campaign through Crisis in Freeport (scaled for 7th-8th level characters). I increased the level of some of the NPC villains, but left the plot alone. It worked fine. The PCs used some of their high level abilities (like scry + teleport) to bypass many of the fights, but that was fine with me. It just means I've got some surviving villains to use later. It is nice to allow the PCs a chance to feel like big damn heroes every once in a while.

I've tried this a few times both as DM and player. It has yet to end well... :) (what follows is all 1e-based)

As DM, I ran a 5th-level group through a friend's home-brew adventure originally designed for 1st-2nd level types; I beefed it up a bit, but not enough...or so I thought, until the party went in and got their collective rear ends handed to them.

As player, we've taken a 5th-ish level party into the original T1 Hommlet...I *think* the DM was running it pretty much stock, without any beefing-up...and barely avoided getting TPKed. We went through nearly 2 entire parties worth of characters before finally finishing on the 3rd or 4th attempt...

Probably closer to running them through Gnomeregan. Which is a lot of fun, although it's still always possible to get killed doing it. (That stupid schematic never dropped for me! :mad: )
 

Done it. Pretty much a cakewalk once you get two spell levels above the adventure's target. (If it's a 3-4 adventure, a wizard with 4th level spells cheeses it fast. Along with the other PCs.)
 

I've done Sunless Citadel with 4th level characters. At first we thought we wouldn't have to rest, but we did rest, three times. It was kind of fun being the heavy favorite. You could do whatever wacky stuff you wanted and know you were probably safe.
