D&D General Evil Hag Lure

Make sure when you want to trick your players, you use a young, helpless child that is "lost" and needs "help" to aid the child.

Then, when the "child" decides it morphs into its true self, a Hag! Probably when it lures the players into its den with all of its Mimic furniture.

Ah, yes, Doppelgangers! I forgot about those wonderful creatures as well.

My players never fall for 'lost children'.

Not because they are savvy to this trick, but because years of child NPCs has trained them to expect any child NPC to be annoying to the point of murder and so if they see an unaccompanied child, they stop, slowly back away, then choose a new route.
