Evil Spells in BOVD

What the heck is up with some of the components? I swear they threw some of the components in just for the heck of it for no good reason whatsoever.

Explain Shriveling to me, PLEASE. Why does such a standard power spell require a lethal disease to cast? Why do some others have expensive components for minor effects?

I am considering eliminating many of the components from these spells. Thoughts?

IMC, unless the material component has an XP cost or GP cost in excess of 50 gp, we ignore it and assume the caster has everything they need or there are no material components needed.

An exception is the Identify spell, which we houseruled has no material components and reveals everything about standard items. Nonstandard items that are special "DM plot" items have standard powers revealed in most cases but any secret powers are left... well, secret until the DM is ready to reveal them.

Just flavour, I guess. It means that they don't become available to the PCs but the NPCs can still use them.
