A Contemporary Old Timey Southerner who dated him called him out on his racism and he berated her for it.</p><p></p><p>An excerpt from the Black Canaan short story: <em>“[Saul Stark is] a great big black devil that talks better English than I like to hear a </em><strong>(Racist term for African American)</strong><em> talk.”</em></p><p></p><p><span style="color: rgb(226, 80, 65)"><strong>AUTHOR'S NOTE:</strong> </span><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">This is as far as I'm willing to entertain discussion about Howard and Lovecraft's bigotry in this thread on</span><span style="color: rgb(226, 80, 65)"> <strong>Existentialism in Sword and Sorcery.</strong></span><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)"> It was a footnote in order to acknowledge the terrible aspects of the character of the writers while engaging in some serious "Death of the Author" in carrying that which might actually have some value forward out of their work.</span></p></blockquote><p></p>
