Except that, by making it a double weapon, each end would effectively be weilded by one hand (i.e., it is treated as a two one-handed weapons with the off-hand considered light). That makes each application of this double katana exotic not martial. No, they are not similar comparisons as I've already pointed out in my last post. Because stepping up from longsword (to double sword) and bastard sword (to boudle katana) is a different situation entirely. But all of these choices have balancing factors within the rules. Your double katana does not. Urgosh vs. Double Axe: The urgosh can be set to receive a charge. Heavy Flail vs. Greatsword: The flail can make trip checks and has a bonus to disarm. Bastard Sword (2-handed martial) vs. Greatsword: You can still weild it one-handed (albeit at a penalty) if need be. This is the only reason I can think of to take it and not also take the feat. But hey, it's your PC. How is this at all relevant? Exactly. And I never had a problem with "flavor". What I had a problem with was trying to use the "flavor" excuse to get away with taking something unbalanced (IMO). Not fighters in plate armor. Rogues? Sure. You seem to be saying that, since not everyone will want to use this thing, it's balanced. Not true. Beside the point. I disagree. Unless you plan on taking a few thousand on the base price, I don't see cost as a deterent. Do people pay the extra 300 to get a masterwork anything? Sure. Yet all they get is +1 to hit out of that 300. You want to get +1 to hit and +1 damage (effectively, by increasing from d8 to d10). Which is one of the reasons why I said it should use the normal double sword stats.
