As if I didn't already say... :p Sometime early next month, I am releasing the first of three adventures set in Kaidan: a Japanese Ghost Story setting - think of it as something similar to a cross between Oriental Adventures and Ravenloft, it is a Japan-inspired Asian horror setting. The mini-arc is designed for four players at 5th level using standard Core/APG, non-oriental PCs (Gaijin) escorting a gift for a merchant to be delivered to a noble lord in Kaidan. All the monsters are new (or at least new to Pathfinder), except for Tengu (from the Bestiary) with slight tweaks. It uses the new Haunt mechanic from the Game Mastery Guide for many of its encounters. There are new Yurei ghost templates, several of them. There are 3 non-human character races who will be featured as encounters in the adventures: kappa, henge and tengu. Instead of Dark Powers and Domain Rulership, which are Ravenloftian ideas. In Kaidan, you will become trapped if your character dies. Raise Dead and Resurrection magic doesn't work the same. You can't plane shift out, or otherwise leave the closed demi-plane (this is like Ravenloft). The Ethereal Plane (Yomi - the land of the Dead) is linked only to Kaidan. Channel Energy is weakened in Kaidan -2 levels, as well as several undead types add a further -2 to -4 penalty to Channel Energy, so this makes clerics weaker versus the undead (yurei) of the setting. Kaidan exists as a seemingly normal archipelago of islands containing the Empire of Kaidan, you can get there through normal travel (by ship), and you can leave by ship, but you can't leave magically. If you die, you are now trapped in the cursed reincarnation cycle of Kaidan - you will be reborn as a local Kaidanese human or non-human, you will acquire Karma points which determine where you go when you die. In essence your character will multi-class across multiple lifetimes and will be trapped in the setting in perpitude. There are ways out of the trap, but they are secret and heretical. The state doesn't want you to leave... Anyway, like I said, the first adventure will be released early February 2011. GP
