Exploring Metrol - looking for ideas

In the current Eberron campaign that I'm DMing the players have expressed intrest in exploring the ruins of Metrol. I'm looking for ideas as to what they might find.

I'm guessing that the party will be about 6th level (maybe even 7th) when the enter Metrol. The are currently a day's ride south dealing with someone of the Lord of Blade's minions, the conflict will be heavily themed by both fire and constructs. So I'm hoping to give them a little rest on both those scores to keep Metrol interesting.

All help is much appreciated!

Have you checked out the Eberron boards on the WotC forums? You're likely to find a lot of very useful material there, since they're completely focused on Eberron. There's a great - and very long - thread on the "People and Places" one (IIRC) about creepy things to encounter in the Mournland which would possibly be helpful for you.

Metrol? This is one of the things that really turn me off to Eberron. I really dont like the names. This one sounds like a gas station in London.

I did check out the 1001 Mournland Horrors and a few other of the Eberron People and Places threads, but nothing really jumped out at me specificly for Metrol, and places like its royal palace, cathedral, rail station, etc.

Maybe the great metrol zoo. As the height of culture in the 5 nations, I could see something like that in Cyre. Wonderous beasts from Khorvaire's wild past and even stranger beings from Xen'drik and maybe even something from Argonessen. Of course, this is all just an excuse to create a veritable house of horrors, featuring all the nasty templates you've had your eye on. ;)
