Fallen Celestials / Risen Fiends

I've seen many instances of "fallen angels" in D&D. A couple of adventures are written about them. One Weapon of Legacy is based on a fallen solar. Heck, Baalzebul (and I believe Belial as well) are fallen celestials gievn power by Asmodeus.

But what I've never seen is any instance of a risen fiend.

Now, I know that falling from grace is - and SHOULD be - a lot easier than rising from damnation. but does that mean that it hasn't - or shouldn't - ever happen?

Does anyone know of anything written up similar to that line of thought? Planescape fans, I'm looking in your direction!

One of the joinable NPCs in Planescape: Torment is Fall-From-Grace, a LN Succubus Cleric. She is the proprietress of the Brothel for Slaking Intellectual Lusts in Clerk's Ward, Sigil, where customers can employ prostitutes to fulfill their intellectual desires. Fall-From-Grace herself spent a long time in captivity of the Baatezu, which is what caused her changed demeanor.

Arguably, A'kin the Friendly Fiend (N? Arcanoloth) is also a "Risen Fiend." Ask Shemmy about him. :D

"Lady Despina"/Nehael of Sepulchrave II's Tales of Wyre is a risen demon. Her rise was the linchpin of the SH's plot for quite awhile. Frickin' amazing.

I also just remember, the succubus paladin that was featured on the WoTC website. She's fully statted out in several different incarnations (both good and evil) and is featured in one of their free download adventures.

Nightfang spire has one. Sort of. Maybe.

[SBLOCK]I played through it and in our game there was a renegade hezrou demon who was lawful neutral. I don't know how far our DM changed things from the normal set up of the module though[/SBLOCK]

Mythic Races by FFG has a whole race option for risen demons.

Complete Minions by Bastion Press has a template for cast out outsiders, including risen fiends. It takes away a lot of powers and gives them -4 CR I believe.

There is also a redeemed template for evil outsiders in the Book of Templates, Deluxe Edition, and a corresponding fallen template for good outsiders.

There are a number of noted risen fiends out there. Faces of Evil even had a section of the book talking about such things. Still, it's a rare event to see them, because while the celestials tend to exile or eject their fallen, the fiends tend to obliterate any of their kind that shift any direction in alignment away from their particular flavor of evil.

As for openly risen fiends, I don't have their names at the tip of my tongue at the moment, but there are a handful of risen Baatezu and Tanar'ri, and there was Felthis Ap Jerran the Philosopher King in Dragon 351. I'll add the names of the other examples this afternoon if nobody adds them first, I just don't have access to my notes and such at the moment.

There were fiends who weren't risen, but for whom their circumstances made it plausible that they might very well go in that direction. Krell, an exiled arcanaloth in one of the adventures in 'Well of Worlds' was one example of this.

As for A'kin being risen? He's always smiling. That must mean he's good. Really, trust him. The canonical A'kin at least is evil, evil with a smile. One of the designers of the Planescape line, I believe it was Ray Vallese came right out and said at one point something to the effect of "A'kin is so very evil, don't fool yourself."
