I've recently released a hobby project I've been working on for the past several months, and I'm excited to share it with you. It's a mobile app called Familiar, designed for TRPG game masters. Inspired by the random tables often used in scenario writing, this app composes various random narrative elements into a rough plot outline to spark new ideas for your campaigns or one-shots. The app contents are system-agnostic and can be used in any game.

How it Works:​

1. Choose a Setting: Select a setting for your adventure, or mix multiple settings for a unique combination. There are currently five settings available.
2. Roll the Dice: Press "Roll," and the app generates a seed for your adventure along with several plug-in plot elements (characters, items, factions, places, etc.). These elements are themed according to your chosen setting and come with quirks to make them more interesting and inspiring.
3. Interpret or Reroll: You can interpret the generated results, reroll elements until you find something that fits, or export the results as a prompt for a large language model (LLM) of your choice. This feature is included because AI interpretations can sometimes provide amusing and creative insights.

I plan to gradually expand the content and add new settings and features.

The app is a labor of love and completely free, with ads turned off by default. However, if you'd like to support the project, you can enable a small ad banner in the settings. This won't unlock any additional features, but your support is appreciated.

Today, I’m back with some exciting news about the Familiar app, my project designed for TRPG game masters!

But first, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who downloaded Familiar during its first month after release. While the audience is still quite small (as expected, given the app’s niche), I’m incredibly thankful to those who are using this project I’ve dedicated so much time to! A special thanks goes out to those who took the time to leave feedback!

Now, onto the news!
I’m thrilled to announce that Familiar v1.2.0 was released yesterday.
Here’s what’s new in this version:

• The "Urban Fantasy" setting has been added to the list of available settings.
• New adventure seeds and elaborations have been included.
• New plug-in elements have been added, featuring both Urban Fantasy-themed content and updates for existing settings.
• Generated adventures can now be exported as a PDF for sharing or printing.
• Various improvements and bug fixes have been made.
