Fantastic Four (trailer)

Kramodlog

Naked and living in a barrel
Grimdark. Origine story. No voyage in space, just a trip to another dimension as the source of their powers. The leaks were correct. Seems Doom will be an angry blogger after all.

It is like they do not want to show us too much superheroness. Cause superhero fatigue.

That trailer was more interstellar than Fantastic Four.

And I have to say tonally that the grimdark tone is about opposite of how the FF are as a team and comic.

I have to agree. The FF are bright, colourful 1960s optimism. That trailer is more Dark Knight with a side order of Punisher.

I am willing to give it a chance, and not jump about changes before things get rolling. I'm not excited for a FF movie, but maybe they can do something cool with it.

Ok, big "meh" from me. The *only* reason I would see this is Kate Mara, but I'm not sure if even that is enough to make me see it in the theater.

Yeah, this doesn't look good to me at all. This, and Ant Man, look like big missteps to me. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Here's a few things that are worth noting from the trailer :

Science Heroes :This idea of "science heroes" is totally fitting with the original vision of the Fantastic Four. Although they helped revive the superhero genre and created the Marvel Age, the FF have always been about exploration and innovation more than simply fighting crime or righting wrongs.

Location, Location, Location : there's a shot of Sue Storm watching some location markers appear on a digital map. Most importantly, we see a blip somewhere in Europe that seems to align pretty closely with the fictional location of Latveria, ( At 0:45 there's an IP address on the screen, 23.21.190.125. It leads to the Wikipedia page for Latveria. doom's country. )

As a general reminder : a portal to the Negative Zone is exactly what granted the Ultimate Fantastic Four their powers, a comic cited by Kinberg and Trank as a major influence.
