WOW... let me tell you, I just got done with a fantastic game! The pcs got the most xp in one session that they've ever received with this group. They got the most loot. They fought bad guys that used to be their allies. Five pcs, levels 6-9, fought and beat a CR 13 and a CR 15 monster! If they hadn't split them up with a wall of stone... if they'd had to fight them both at once... they might've been totally slaughtered. I wanted it to be a good game cuz it's the last one I'm running at my current pad; I'm moving out on Friday. I really enjoyed the session, and so did all the players (I think). Actually, one of them spent the session polymorphed into a tree sloth. Kinda sucked for him, but he's a real drop-in once-in-a-while kind of player anyway, and the character totally brought it upon himself. The only fight of the game was the big one. It started with two gear hounds, then just as the pcs defeated them they heard a choked voice cry out, "Flee! Flee!" To their horror they saw two npcs they thought were dead- all borged out, with metal bits fused to them and strange devices implanted in their heads and stuff. The party's elementalist cast the fateful wall of stone, but one of the npcs could cast Pass Through Earth and Stone and he just walked right through the wall. The whole time they fought him he kept begging them to flee. The fight lasted 21 rounds! It was out of hand... the whole time they fought the first npc they all thought they were going to all die. Then when the other one finally got through the wall they thought they were doomed (he had an AC30). It was outrageous! I should post them on the homebrew monsters forum with their template (clockwork servitor)... The party got an awesome magic item, too. Actually a ton of really good loot, between the magic items of one of the npcs (I posted him in the clockwork master thread in house rules, I think, but that was a while back). Plus three feat-related items from an ancient tomb with long-lost secrets. All in all, a great wrap-up to the gaming in this apartment!
