Fantastic Voyage - Coming to DVD (see post #13)

So my parents ht the video rental store on the way back from my sisters place and they rented The Longest Yard, The Rock, The Green Mile and Fantasic Voyage. Now I have seen the former three, and believe me, I am looking forward to watching them again. But I have never seen Fantastic Voyage before. I know its premise though. A team of scientists and doctors inside a submarine get shrunk and go on an expedition in the Human Body. Same with Innerscpace (which I own). Anyway, is the movie any good? Should I give it a chance?

Well, it is a classic movie, which has been parodied by both the Simpsons and I think Family Guy. And it was written by Isaac Asimov, I think.

But the real reason to watch it is Raquel Welch. Wow.

Because Isaac did write a novel of the same name.

Interesting. Did you enlarge the cover and see the text beneath the title that states -

Based on the screenplay by Harry Kliener. Adaptation by David Duncan. Based on a story by Otto Klement and Jay Lewis Bixby.

It appears he was brought on to write that in a simplified format for youngsters, possibly so he could then pen the sequel abashedly which would be potential fodder for a sequel on the big screen or even a series for television, I suppose. The timing of its paperback publication, 1988, places it one year after the inception of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Coincidence? ;)

I remember reading Fantastic Voyage II when it first came out, because I was a big Asimov fan in the 80s. That's why I thought he might have written the first one (not just the novelization)
