L.E.Modesett Recluse books. They tend to have the same arc but there is something about them that makes them enjoyable. The way it spends time on the little things.
C.S. Freidman Coldfire. Terrant Rocks.
I also liked Sable, Shadow and Ice by Cheryl J. Franklin. very unique.
Melenie Rawn's Sunrunner stuff was good too. hmm... must by the female writers, LOL
Glad the Recluse books got mentioned, what a interesting take on magic and I loved the non-linear story quality of the books. A very interseting and different take on fantasy fiction.

I was a fan of Barbara Hambly's Unschooled Wizard books (I've also heard it called the Sun Wolf series) but good luck finding them now. The book Dragonsbane was pretty good but I haven't read the recent series based on it.

I also liked Melanie Rawn's Exiles series better than the Sunrunner books. It's not a great work of fiction but it's a good read.
