OK. A little background here. I recently completed my last major story arc in my D&D homebrew. At the end of it, my players managed to work things so that the next arc will be the fantasy characters on galactic stage. After looking at various options (Dragonstar, T20, d20Future, and Space Hero), I settled on d20Future as the main system. One of the key differences between the two settings is that the Fantasy-based world is the only spot in the universe that has access to real magic. Psionics gets a little bit of a break due to setting background, but even it's substantially weaker. Of course, D&D and d20Future don't use exactly the same rule base, so I've had to house rule a few things. Before I started, I figured I'd run the proposed rules through a peer review to make sure I haven't missed anything. Comments, questions, and clarifications are all welcome. EDIT: One final check: These are house rules intended for a long term campaign using a mix of D&D and d20 Modern characters for the PCs versus d20 Future NPCs and a mix of d20 Future and D&D monsters. The fantasy characters are beginning the campaign at 17th level or so, but will lose access to magic. The d20 Future characters will be starting at 10th. I expect the campaign will run for at least 10 levels, meaning I'll be working with Epic-Level characters shortly. Fantasy characters start the game with 20 ranks in a few Int-based Modern skills of their choice. They won't have access to any high-tech personal equipment to start. They do have opportunities (which at least some/most of them won't take) to pick up a level in a d20 Modern class, and a single d20 Modern skill of any kind to 9 ranks. I didn't want them to be completely helpless when they started, but give them a hard "We're not in Kansas anymore" shock at the start. Given all of that, and knowing that all those numbers are complete WAGs at the balance I want, what issues do you all forsee? Do I need to up the d20 future starting level? Are there any issues with Epic Modern/Future play (besides the fact that its one huge houserule)? What am I missing?
Access to Magic Dungeons and Dragons lose access to all spells, supernatural abilities, and non-psionic spell-like abilities. All magic items lose all of their magical qualities. Magic weapons, armor, and shields retain any bonuses from qualtiy craftmanship and material. Access to Psionics Psionic characters lose access to any general psion power over 3rd level, any psychic warrior power over 4th level, any telepath power over 5th level, and all other discipline powers. Power points, psionic feats, psicrystals, and psionic items that duplicate the above powers are unaffected. Psionic items that do not duplicate the above powers are resitricted to a list price of 10,000 gp. Defense Bonuses Dungeons and Dragons classes and prestige classes do not have a defense bonus. Dungeons and Dragons characters adventuring in Galactic Olerra can only gain a defense bonus by taking the following feat: Modern Defense{General, Fighter} Prerequisites:Class levels without a defense bonus Description:When a character acquires this feat, he chooses one of his classes without a defense bonus. He immeditately gains a +1 bonus to his AC. This bonus improves by +1 for every two additional levels in the class he has chosen. Special:This feat may be taken once for each class that lacks a defense bonus. It's affects are NOT calculated retroactively, but only from the point of acquistion onward. A Rogue 9/Fast Hero 5, who gains this feat at 15th character level (Rog 10/FH 5), and then advances another 6 levels in Rogue (Rog 16/FH 5), has a total defense bonus of +9, not +13. Reputation and Class Level checks The fantasy Olerra campaign uses Class Level checks to represent many of the same situations as d20 Moderns reputation checks. However, Olerran characters have no reputation on the Galactic stage, and are isolated from their normal venues. An Olerran character that adventures in Galatic Olerra gains a +1 reputation bonus every three levels after they enter galactic society. They cannot use their reputation bonus on Olerra, nor make Class Level checks in Galactic society. Skills Gather Information: Fantasy characters reduce their Gather Infomation ranks by 1/3 (round down). Heal: This is equivalent to Treat Injury, but does not include the Surgery option, until and unless the character acquires the Surgery feat. Ranks of Heal may used as Treat Injury on a one-for-one basis (with the exception noted). Character who possess both skills gain a +2 synergy bonus to the higher skill for every 5 ranks of the lower skill. Read/Write Languages: All fantasy characters are able to read and write every lanugage they speak. Research: Fantasy characters have 1/3 of their Gather Information ranks in Research. Feats Archaic Weapons Proficiency: All fantasy characters gain this as a virtual feat. Improved Damage Threshold: Any fantasy character with a feat that extends either their death point, allows them to be active at negative hit points, or improves their saves versus either massive damage to coup-de-grace attempts, gains this as a free virtual feat. Techno-Literacy: (Custom Feat)Fantasy characters without this feat are at -4 with any roll that uses or requires a technological device.
I'm also planning on using my many Fantasy-based monsters for alien critters. I suspect they'll convert easily enough but are there any hidden issues I should be aware of?
