Fantasy Flight Games officially has Star Wars license

I'm crossing my fingers on the X-Wing vs. Tie fighter game, hope it is similar to Wings of War.
I got the chance to play the demo a couple times at GenCon, and it does play very similar to Wings of War.

On thing the guys running the demos did stress was that what we were seeing was not the finished rules set, and they were taking notes and suggestions for both this and the CCG. Right now, the planned release for those two games is "early 2012, possibly first quarter."

I'm of mixed feelings about how FFG is going to handle the RPG portion of the license, which admittedly is the part of the license I care the most about, being predominately an RPG guy. I absolutely adore Saga Edition, so I really hope that FFG goes a non-d20 route. I do hope they avoid going the WFRP 3rd route, as that really didn't jive with me, and as long as they don't do that, or try to shoehorn the WF40K RPG system into Star Wars, I'm willing to at least give FFG the benefit of the doubt, and will pick up the corebook at the very least. And I'm actually glad they're not dropping an RPG this soon. It (hopefully) means that they are taking their time with it, and want to make a good game.

Also of interest to note is that apparently FFG's license doesn't extend into the current Clone Wars series. Which seems a bit odd seeing as how Clone Wars is LucasFilm's current big thing.

That's weird. Where did you hear that?
Sorry, should have clarified that the non-Clone Wars bit was a rumor I heard someplace during GenCon, perhaps based upon the fact that the two demo games that FFG had to offer only took place in the Classic/Rebellion Era rather than having much to do with LucasFilm's current focus franchise. Could be something, could be absolutely nothing.

BTW, if anyone is curious to hear what FFG has to say about having the license, GM Chris of the Order 66 podcast snagged an interview with two of the head chaps. It's in Episode 143: Flights of Fantasy from GenCon, and it does a decent rundown of the CCG and X-Wing games. They can't say much about future plans that haven't been announced (naturally), but if nothing else these guys do seem dedicated to making the line succeed.
