Fantasy Newspapers

A nice compromise between the relatively high-tech movable type and the relatively high-magic spells is have your paper printed with engraved plates. This was what was used in the real world before movable type revolutionized printing. Basically, everything would need to be engraved in a metal plate which was then loaded on a windmill-type printing press (or possibly something even more archaic). It would be a time-consuming and expensive endeavor. Because each plate takes so long to make, the newspaper would just publish a one-sided broadsheet with whatever news or propaganda is ready. There would probably be almost know way to pay for it other than patronage. Because of the expense and time, each broadsheet would be somewhat valuable in itself and would thus be handed from person to person for weeks.

I'm on my second Eberron Campaign, and found a newspaper a great way to extend the meta-plot of events taking place.

Plus, Eberron had a great fan resource in the fan-made "Korranberg Chronicle" that had about 20 issues produced until it folded. Lots of great bits that can turn into adventures or side treks if the players find something interesting. Unfortunately, it folded due to lack of support.

This is true - there is a lot of stuff to borrow liberally from. Incidentally, has anyone heard if the Korranberg Chronicle Wiki is getting off the ground?
