Fantasy Versions of Historic/Literary Characters

This thread is inspired by my "Lord Byron in D&D" thread I posted earlier.

So, have any of you been inspired to create characters based on historical or literary personages, either to use as a PC or an NPC? I'm trying out a version of Lord Byron in my Freeport game. He's going to be Manfred Darkchilde, a high level tielfling bard.

So, what are your stories? :)

I tend to do this fairly often when I'm DM-ing. The most recent one was a Ranger/Deepwood Sniper NPC named Nathaniel. He's based on Hawkeye (real name Nathaniel Bumpo) from James Fenimore Cooper's novels, most famously "Last of the Mohicans".
