Everything published in most countries after 1972 is still under copyright; most things published since 1930 in the US, are, too.

One reason it was well distributed is that it was a sci-fi book club selection. I remember being impressed by the real-world discussion but at the time I was 13.

Up until this thread started, I wasn't aware of the illustrated slipcover - as tends to happen, the slipcover for my copy apparently didn't survive the passage of time and/or the transfer of ownership before I acquired it.
