Wow. You guys are the best. I am blown away. My mind is expanded to new possibilities. I may never sleep again. So much to be done! Much to assimilate--a few days to think about things before I decide what to do. You're right about the database, of course--that makes perfect sense. I'm signed up to take XML databases in the spring, but I haven't started the class yet and I don't know exactly what it's going to cover. Working on this project gave me a lot of fodder for my xhtml class this past fall (same sadistic professor)--it was a lot easier to get the hang of the coursework having some content I cared enough to manage. So what might happen would be a first version of the site mostly in xhtml and Javascript, and a later version to be debuted this summer with databases. As I did with this, I'm allowed to ask for advice while I'm taking classes, but I have to do the actual coding myself until the grades are in. Then we can rip the thing apart and do it better. Also a learning experience for me. OK, now I will share my humble draft with you so that the apprentice can learn from the masters. Go ahead and beat on me. I can take it. Note the following: Piratecat and the Defenders haven't seen this yet or formally approved any of the content. (Uh, hi guys?) There ought to be an introduction on the first page where the big ugly graphic is now. The big ugly graphic needs to be replaced (oh, if only I had Photoshop! Any volunteers for that chore? Ought to be a sun face, probably something we can turn into a image map. The drawing is mine and we can play with it all we want, if we want, but I have no software that will let me turn it into a real computer graphic instead of a scanned doodle, if you follow.) There maybe ought to be some mention of Piratecat somewhere on the site? Many acknowledgements are missing The format ought to be titles and synopses as shown on the Early Years page, clickable to full story chunk. The Early Years isn't clickable yet. The pages that have clickable links (Eversink, White Kingdom) don't have full titles and synopses as yet. The links in More Miscellaneous Travels are from raw emails and haven't really been turned into proper story telling as yet. Player credits/bios might be added, if the players want to do them. More PC illustrations and descriptions are needed, and the descriptions that are up are only placeholders. There ought to be at least one link to EN World, right? The PDF's should be included for those who want to be able to print out the stories. The search function worked fine on the school server, but I haven't hooked it up for the new server yet. We're shy of a lot of episode titles. I could really use some ideas for better episode titles. Once we get the story all in, I wnat to add a place for homebrewed spells and monsters, etc. I've been having trouble uploading one of the sound files, so don't be surprised if the big one is busted. There's a bug in the header for the patheon that breaks the dropdown menus. Working on it. Meanwhile, manually go to another page and the menus will work again. I have more things to upload in the way of maps, jpgs of handwritten documents, etc. but those will have to wait a bit until I get the story more under control. Advice about what else is missing greatly appreciated. Thanks! http://www.piratecat.info/spira/def1.htm
