Farscape "Bringing Home the Beacon" 2-7-03 [SPOILERS]

John Crichton

First Post
I should be flogged for not posting about this very entertaining ep sooner....

First off, let me say that with only 6 episodes remaining I can't see any way that the producers can put a lid on this thing without another season. There are WAY too many things to wrap up. It's really frustrating.

Anywho, on to the ep:

The splitting of the crew was a interesting concept. The previous ep was about the guys at a "mental-arts training camp" set up by Scorpy to toughen up John for the coming Scarran onslaught. This week shows us the women and their search for something to hide Moya from sensors and find events that will change the course of the Peacekeeper/Scarran relationship forever.

I loved the "teamwork" of the females. I didn't thing they'd jive so well together but they did. But you know when you get a bunch of PK's and Scarrans together and that's never good. Grayza has set up a meeting with some Scarrans to negotiate terms. They throw around insults and Grayza offers Luxan space to the Scarrans as a bargaining chip. Needless to say, things do not go well, Aeryn & Sizoku end up having to rescue Grayza to prevent war. Chiana and Noranti have to get genetic disguises to avoid capture and everything, in traditional Farscape fashion goes straight to frell.

I liked all of it. Very entertaining. The politics of the war on the horizon, the Scarran viewpoint and the crew of Moya's involvement were all well done. This is the start-up of what the later part of the show has been leading up to. Things are coming to a head between all these factions and I expect the action to kick things up a notch. And in all of this, Aeryn is replaced by a robotic doppelganger and the imposter subsequently killed by John. Now he has to find her. Great stuff.

On a closing note, I am preparing to be very annoyed by the season/series-ending cliffhanger. *sigh*

Thoughts? :)

Farscape is still be best show on air and it is going to hurt not seeing how things get put together all those threads hanging loose! Damn your eyes SciFi!

It was nice to see a girl night out. A few hints on what is going on in the background.

The Scarrans and PKs should know by now not to mess with Moya and John and here they go and piss him off.

One of the best episodes I have seen in quite a while. Ending this series with a cliff hanger is a absolute travesty, if it ends like every other cliffhanger season ending of this series then it will literally end the whole show mid sentence and we may never find out what happens from there (probably with Crichton floating in space). Show seems to be hitting it's stride at the end of the run.

Very unrealistic.

There is simply no way you could put four women into a shopping mall (with that much money in their pockets) and only have them buy one little item. :D

Letting the crew off Moya, letting them stumble around and interact with the locals – and each other – really helps define who they are. But the way the show is spotlighting certain characters by having them go off and do things on their own is a great idea.

So… if I’m right, does this mean that the Scarrans don’t believe that Braca is even worth cloning? Ouch!

I know it will end like that. It always does. That's what makes it even worse. The producers (Kemper and crew) have said that they will try and do some creative editing but it's of little consolation...

Definitely a step up, I agree. I didn't enjoy the first couple of eps much, but once they got off earth things have gotten more interesting again. Everything is finally coming together, just in time for the series to be canceled. Very frustrating.

speaking of the whole ending thing...
Has anyone heard anything about the fate of the show? I know they were talking about trying to get another channel to pick it up, and the whole crusade to get Sci-Fi to keep it, but I haven't heard if anything ever came of any of that?
Anyone know anything?

And just for those interested, the show did a 1.3 in the ratings for this ep (lower for the midnight EST showing). The popular opinion is that it needs a 2.0 to get more attention and possibly be saved. *sigh*
