Ok here it goes, I'm am starting a new Scarred Lands campaign and I have the major campaign concept down. The problem is I am having trouble putting the first few sessions together where I am satisified with them. The party is all starting at 5th level and consists of 1 human Cleric of Corean, 1 human Wizard (Evoker), 1 spiked chain weilding Half-Ogre Fighter (going Gladiator)- I hate him already! and 1 elven rogue (npc). So far all are from Mithril except the rogue. The Half-Ogre is a rescued slave from fighting pits in Shelzar and has been be-friended by the cleric. So far everyone looks like they are LG. Overall the three Dark Gods (Belsameth, Vangal and Chardun) have formed a Dark Triumvirate unknown to anyone. My campaign will focus mainly on Belsameth's forces which include: 1. The Penumbral Pentagon 2. The Cult of the Ancients 3. The evil Necromancer's of Glivid-Autel Campaign Opens: There have been a number of significant assassination attempts of major leaders across Ghelspad some successful and others not: 1. Emili Derigesh-High Cleric of Corean and Barconius-Leader of the Order of Mithril (Paladins) 2. I might throw in an attempt on Danye Blackburn (Head Wizard of the Shadow Mask Guild of Wizards) simply to bring the wizard of the party into the campaign! 3. Home Commander Kelemis of Vesh 4. High King Thain of Burok Torn 5. The Verdent Seat from the Elven Nation of Vera-Tre). To open the party will be directly involved in thwarting the assassination attempt on the High Cleric or the Leader of the Order of Mithril (since the majority of the party is from Mithril). This should make the party's involvement in the campaign very personal. They will find out about the other assassination attempts so they understand that there is a major dark organization/ organizations working against Mithril and its allies. The party will be assigned to find the assassins and/ or who they are working for and disrupt the plans of any dark forces moving against Mithril and its allies. The party will be told that no one can know what there true mission is (because of the assassination attempts-there must not be any leak of information to the assassins of the party's mission/ intent). This means that they may seek help where ever they can find it, but no one outside a select few people will know what there mission really is. They can not openly tell anyone for risk of the assassins finding out! Those that do know, believe there are traitors/ informants inside Mithril, Vera-Tre, BurokTorn and Vesh feeding intelligence to the assassins. Until more information is known about the plot, they can not risk the party and its purpose being discovered. The Problem: The campaign kind of came together sooner than expected. Besides the initiial assassination encounter, what direction would you take the party from there? I thought the party would be shown some left over evidence (a unique poison that was used in the attempts). This will lead them to the Crazy Poison Making woman in the Hornsaw Forest who is probably the only person in Ghelspad capable of making this poison. Note: I want to incorporate all three dark organizations as the campaign goes on, but I'm really not sure where to go from this point on! I'm looking for a few specific ideas where to take them from here.
