FastForwardGames & Reviews: The Confrontation

The Laughing One
Hmm...
I just read this: http://fastforwardgames.com/900/900_29.htm column, and i must say, how low can a writer/publisher sink?

Let me start by saying that i don't own any FFG D20 books, the reason is that they're not available around here and would have to be ordered from another country. But i read a lot of reviews and most of the reviews concerning above mentioned publisher come to the conclusion that FFG D20 material isn't of the highest quality. I know as a reader that reviews are subjective, 'tainted' by the reviewers perspective. You always take a review with a grain of salt and check it out your self before really deciding whether or not you like a product.

A column criticizing reviewers is one thing, but criticizing reviewers because they don't say nice things about your products is highly suspect and extremely inappropriate.

FastForwardGames now has the following strikes:
- Reviewers don't like the products
- WotC doesn't like the products
- Writer/publisher is prone to unprofessional behavior
Three strikes and your out!

The only thing that's positive about FFG is that it's distributing some big names Shadowrun, Battletech, etc.

But after all the recent crap that is going on with FFG i, as a consumer, do not have any faith in FFG as a publisher.

Ack!

FFE! (Fast Forward Entertainment)

Not FFG! (Fantasy Flight Games)

This public service announcement brought to you by Izrador, the Shadow in the North, and the allied hordes of Jahzir, Sword of Shadow.

Yeah Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) Rocks! I can't, however, yea or nay, FFE since I have yet to buy a product. My local store doesn't carry them and I rarely ever buy an rpg product site unseen, unless its on sale ;)

I'm changing the title of this thread. I realise you may have strong feelings on the subject, but name-calling isn't appropriate here.

I humbely appologize if i made anyone think that i was talking about Fantasy Flight Games, i'm NOT!

The website says FastForwardGames,so i labled it as such.

Morrus, sorry for the 'name calling' i just had this image in my mind ;-)

NeuroZombie, i have the same 'problem', FastForward products are also not available around here. I just think that with the way FastForward has been handeling 'business', i don't expect any products showing up in the future either. And if business is continued in this way i don't expect any FastForward products period.

I can't help but wonder whether or not the bad rep FastForward is building for itself will reflect badly for the other brands it is carrying...

I know that I'm probably walking on thin ice here, but I will say it nonetheless:
James Ward might just have a point or two in his column.
As far as I understand his text, he doesn't say that he doesn't like reviews that rip his books to shreds - he rather doesn't like reviews who don't tell the reader why the book is that bad.

You can shoot me now.

If that was all he said, i would agree with him. But read between the lines there was a lot of accusations there...

I won't shoot you. I will say that while he makes some good points, some of the reviews he quotes from DON'T engage in the behavior he is deriding. For example, he quotes a summation from one of my reviews and then goes on to say that you should provide examples. If the whole review was available to you instead of just the one quote, you would see that I did give examples.
